It's All About Being Ready

Sunday's gospel, Matthew 25:1-13, was really though provoking for me.

It's a parable about 10 virgins who go to meet a bridegroom.  Half of them planned ahead and brought extra oil for their lamps and the other half didn't.  When their oil ran out, they went in search of some more and missed the bridegroom coming for them.

Our pastor told us that parable means that we need to be ready for when Jesus comes.  And since we don't know when he'll come, we need to start preparing.

Obviously this is true.  I think it's goes back to when my mom or someone would say, don't let yourself get caught doing something you wouldn't want Jesus to walk in and see you doing. 

So what can we do to prepare?

Fr. Elias said that there are so many things to do and I'm looking forward to doing them.  One of them is to make sure that we go to church faithfully on Sundays, receive our sacraments, and be sure to spread the Word.  Those are all things we can do.

The other thing is to continue to live faithful lives.  This is something we can do each day.  And it doesn't have to be a huge statement.  Little things that contribute to making the world a better place.  and I can be committed to doing that.
