Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Backyard Campout

Backyard Campout
Jon and Kate decide to go camping in their backyard.

~*~

Camping in the backyard? Personally, I prefer to look at nature through the window of my 5 star hotel.

On the night that the family had decided to go camping in their backyard, it started to rain. Which always seems to happen when I try to go camping. Kate said that the kids were super excited and even though she doesn't like camping, she was excited for them.

Since the family doesn't have any camping stuff, they headed to Dick's to get the appropriate supplies. The family purchased 2 tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, water bottles, lanterns, and marshmallow stuff. No family outing is complete without drama. Something happened to Leah and she ended up with a bloody lip. Thank goodness it wasn't a big deal. The family was able to make it out of the store relatively unscathed.

Even though it was raining, Jon figured he'd at least set up a tent in the garage for the kids to play in. And if it didn't stop raining, the family could camp in the backyard.

We interrupt Jon's tent setup to do some product advertisement. We see the kids playing some Vtech video game. Kate said that she uses it to help teach the kids their numbers and letters. Hmm...shouldn't that be the job of the parents and not the video game?

Amazingly, it stopped raining and Jon was able to set up the tent for them to camp in the backyard. What I'm confused about is that the ground didn't seem like mush. Which would have been the case if it had in fact rained all day like Kate indicated. Oh well.

Jon entrusts each of the kids with a long s'more fork so they can roast marshmallows. It was hilarious to see them try to roast and then eat them. Poor Joel didn't like that his marshmallow kept catching on fire. Too funny. By the end of marshmallow roasting, the kids were *covered* in marshmallow stickiness. Jon cleaned them all up and then he and Kate started making s'mores. They gobbled them up!

When the kids were all sitting around the file, Kate said she took a look and realized that they're a big family. She thought it was so heartwarming to see them all around the fire. I guess sometimes you do get long in the day to day stuff.

After s'mores, the kids ran off their sugar rushes with their lanterns in the yard. I always loved playing outside with flashlights at night. It was nice to see them having fun and just doing whatever. And there was no crying.

By the time everyone settled in to sleep, it was pouring rain. Jon was in one tent with the boys, Kate was in a tent with the girls, and Cara and Mady had their own tent. It was cute to see Mady and Cara say goodnight to everyone first. Unfortunately, it started raining in Cara and Mady's tent, so they ran to Kate's tent. Being the super mom that she is, Kate said no and to go see Jon. What mother tells her kids no you can't come be in my dry tent? She said 5 girls (it's 6 counting you, darlin) would be too much for one tent. Ok?!?! Thankfully Jon let the girls in and they started to go to bed, when Joel bit open a glow stick. Everyone got cleaned up and fell asleep.

Of course, Kate was woken up a few times by the rain dripping on her but said that the kids didn't seem phased by it. Hannah woke up soaking wet but thankfully rolled over and went back to sleep. We end the episode with Kate telling us that there is a reason why she lives in the house. But Mady and Cara said they had a good time.

SassySarah's Review: Cute episode. One thumb up.
