Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Twins Get Musical

Twins Get Musical
Cara learns how to play the piano and Mady the violin, and they practice for a special concert for the family.

~*~

This sounds like a good idea. Mady and Cara are old enough now to be able to take on some extra-curricular activities. And it's something that they can do away from their little brothers and sisters.

The girls seem super excited to begin music lessons. Mady is heading with her parents and Cara to go pick up her new violin. Carla is heading over to watch the little kids, who are wrecking havoc in the basement.

Kate is getting upset because she can't find her dusty old violin. She told Jon to bring it up and now they can't find it. They start bickering and eventually he discovers it. Kate breaks it out and starts playing. She's not so good, as evidenced by Leah and Aaden holding their ears. Kate passes it off to Mady, who seems excited to start playing her own.

At the music store, Mady seems elated to learn more about her very own violin. The music store employee explains everything about the care and maintenance of the violin. Poor Mady is worried that her little brothers and sisters will destroy the violin. How sad that is what she has to worry about. Before they leave, Jon serenades us with a rendition of Twinkle Twinkle on the kazoo!

The evening is not complete without Kate taking over Mady's new violin and playing Twinkle Twinkle. The kids seem excited and Kate seems pleased that she still knows how to play on a completely tuned violin.

The next day, a piano was being delivered for Cara. A viewer decided they wanted to donate a piano to the family. Being the neat freak she is, Kate hurried and put drop clothes down so the dirt didn't get tracked into the house. 2 men arrived and carried the piano inside. It looks crazy heavy, but they seemed to carry it no problem. Which is amazing to me. But which is even more shocking, the family only got a regular upright. I completely expected Kate to want a baby grand.

The kids couldn't wait to get their hands on the piano and Kate lets them play 1 note at a time. Before the movers leave, one of them plays the ABC song and the kids start singing all together. So cute. Cara got off the bus and realized that her piano was in the living room.

Kate's biggest worry - the piano would collect fingerprints and dust. Why would you choose a shiny black piano if you didn't want to have all the dust show?

Kate attended Mady's first violin lesson. The teacher taught Mady all the important stuff about her violin, how to sit, the basics of playing, etc. Apparently Mady didn't like when Kate was with her because she (shock) gave her opinion and talked through most of the lesson. So Mady asked that Kate not attend any more lessons. Smart girl!

Jon got home and relieved the babysitter. The kids were starting to get up from their naps and finally Jon just gave up and let them come downstairs to play. All the kids seemed happy to have Jon around to play. A cute moment happened with Aaden when he couldn't find his "gasses" and had to search around the house.

Kate has decided that she's not going to force the girls to practice because she hated it. So if the girls want to practice, they can do so, but if they don't want to do it, then that's fine. That might be an awful idea. They aren't going to get good or like to do their instruments if their parents don't force them to practice. I think they should be asked to practice regularly. But that's just me.

Cara's lessons started right away. Unfortunately, she had to get her fingernails cut, which she didn't seem to be happy about. When Kate was cutting her nails, Mady started getting jealous and acted out. I think Mady has some problems when someone else has the attention on her. I wonder where she gets it from. lol During the first lesson, the piano teacher came to the house and all the kids congregated in the living room. Why Kate wouldn't try to keep them out o the room is beyond me. Cara seemed to be happy with her lessons.

Two weeks later, Cara and Mady decided to give the family a concert. Everyone sat in the living room and were waiting for the girls to start playing. It didn't turn out well. Cara claimed she couldn't play that slow and Mady couldn't keep up. Mady fell on Colin, who was sitting a few feet away from her. And then Cara ran off. But in the end, all turned out well. Cara and Mady made up and Mady ended up teaching Cara everything she knew.

And Kate decides that she might end up with 2 violinist for the price of 1.

SassySarah's Review: An okay episode...the girls seemed happy. No thumbs up or down.
