Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Renovations & Vacations

Renovations & Vacations

The thought of doing dishes in the bathtub while the kitchen is renovated proves to be too much for Kate, so she takes the kids to the beach.

~*~

Oh a new opening for the show. But it's still "our" life.

Jon announces that he and Kate have decided to separate. But Kate reassures us that all the fears are gone now that the decisions have been made. So we can just focus on the positive and move forward.

During January 2009, Jon and Kate decided to renovate the kitchen. Kate's best friend decided that he would do a free kitchen for the family. Hmm...I had no idea that Kate had a best friend. And even more strange is that he decided to do it for free.

The designers came over and we see Kate complain about all the space she had in her kitchen. She wants drawers in the cupboards and more counter space. Seriously. I'd give anything for that kind of space. Jon and Kate got along okay, until Jon suggested they get an under the counter refrigerator. Kate immediately freaked out and didn't seem to like that he spoke at all. But when the designers explained that this would allow the kids to be able to get their own drinks, Kate changed her mind. Funny how someone else had to validate Jon's thoughts.

We finally get to see the kids. Alexis, Collin, and Aaeden are playing with a LiteBright but can't seem to figure out what it is and how it works. Poor kids. They're clearly not the stars of the show anymore - which is completely fine. But I swear they film them just to insert random parts of their lives into the episode so the show is validated.

Back to the kitchen designing, the designers tell Kate that her kitchen will be out of commission for 2 weeks. They recommend doing dishes in the bathtub. Kate looks confused and then laughs and asks if they have heard of paper. Probably because that's *all* she ever uses.

Fast forward to May. Kate and Carla are frantically emptying the pantry and kitchen. Which is strange that Kate waited until the last minute to get the kitchen cleaned out. The kids seem happy to help with the clean up. And the most exciting part? The bibs got thrown in the garbage!

It's finally time for demolition and all the cabinets are being ripped out. There are nails and other types of construction equipment laying around. Of course, the kids can't stay away and constantly want to watch what's going on and walk through to see up close.

Since Kate realized that she can't handle being at home any longer, she decided that she was going to take the kids to Bald Head Island, NC for a vacation. But since this was during their *separation*, Jon wasn't going with them.

Unfortunately, Kate is such a mega star now, so the paparazzi follow them around constantly. So the family left early in the morning in order to trick the paps. Since those guys are smart, they found them a few days later. And then we were treated to massive amounts of pictures of Kate's bikini bod.

Kate (and nanny) headed to the beach right away. It seems that due to the fact that the kids were a year older, they would be able to run right into the ocean without any sort of parental supervision. Which seems strange. Because the prior year? She made them hold a parent hand and had someone watching them at all times. But who am I to judge? The kids are a whole year older.

Jon stayed behind and had to supervise the kitchen installation. He knew that Kate would want to make sure that everything wasn't ruined, so he had to watch over it all. He did seem kind of lonely without the kids. I can imagine going from 8 loud kids to nothing would be quite a change.

Back at the beach, everyone had a blast. The kids frolicked in the sand and ocean. Kate did actually play with the kids and had fun having their mom bury them in the sand. It was nice to see the kids interact with their mom. Especially because she usually ignores them.

No beach house would be complete without a pool. So after Kate had given the paparazzi their shots for the day, the family headed to the kiddie pool. The kids seemed to have a blast playing around and feeling carefree. They all seemed happy to be splashing around. And in the background, Mommy was laying on her lounger. Which appears to be reasonable considering the paparazzi couldn't catch her being "mother of the year."

On the next Jon & Kate Plus 8 is the big kitchen reveal. Oooo...stay tuned.

SassySarah's Review: The episode was kind of boring. Focused on the free stuff Jon and Kate's house is getting. The kids could care less what kind of fabulous kitchen they have as long as they get fed 3 meals a day. One thumb down.
