Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Camping Out

Camping Out

Kate must figure out how to set up multiple tents and start a campfire so the kids can sleep under the stars.

This was Kate's first official time with the kids since the separation. And during this time, she was going to let the kids camp out. Despite the fact that Kate isn't too keen on doing this stuff, she's going to do it so that the kids don't lose out. Should be interesting.

Showing off her new body in tight workout clothes, Kate tells us where they're going to camp in the backyard. In what appears to be brand new tents, Kate opens the packages and starts to get them set up. I wonder what happened to the tents that they got from last year...

In a snotty voice, Hannah told Kate that Daddy knew everything about tents and building them. That clearly can't be comforting.

In interviews with the kids, they all collectively agreed that Kate wasn't a good tent builder. Hannah, Alexis, and Leah each agreed that only boys know how to put up tens. Um...I don't think that's a very good example or thing to tell your girls.

Kate did get 1 tent set up and the production assistants set up the other ones. Isn't it nice to have assistants to do all of your dirty work? Oy.

It appeared to be a hot day, so the kids put on their swimmies and jumped right into the pool. Thankfully Ashley was there to watch the kids. Because multiple kids in a poll with one adult is scary. And a danger in the event that something happened to more than one of them at the same time.

Everyone breaks out their brand new sleeping bags and gets them all set up before it gets really dark out. Which is a smart idea. Because I usually wait until it's way too late and can't even see where I'm throwing my sleeping bag.

It's finally time for s'mores. Kate did have a bit of a problem getting the fire started. Mady and Cara did announce that if they had to live in the wilderness with their mother, they would more than likely die. Oh...nice.

The kids enjoyed roasting their marshmallows. Of course the majority of them ended up a burned mess. But when you're doing it outside...no one really cares that they're a charred mess! Because once the chocolate melts, it's just heaven in your mouth.

Once the s'mores were over, Kate herded the kids inside for showers and then let them climb into the tent. No one really wanted to go to bed because it was fun to have glow-sticks and run around. But everyone did eventually settle down and go to sleep. Mady and Cara got to sleep in their own tents outside without an adult. Which I have mixed feelings about. They're 9 - I don't know if I would feel comfortable having them outside by themselves without some sort of adult with them.

Everyone seemed happy in the morning. They all had fun and liked just laying around in the morning in the tent. Of course, Kate got up and ditched the kids, but hey, what parent wouldn't get out of the tent while her 5 year olds ran around.

SassySarah's Review: This was a boring show. I mean we repeated the dentist and now we're repeating the camping. What's next...more potty training? One thumb down.
