Jon & Kate Plus 8 - All Smiles

All Smiles
The sextuplets visit the dentist for another cleaning and check up. Will they all remain calm in the chair or will there be a repeat of prior checkups? Also, Mady and Cara visit the orthodontist for the first time to find out if they both need braces.

Another trip to the dentist? We saw the kids' first trip, but do we really want to see another one? Kate sure thinks we do!

Kate tells us that we're heading to the kids' 6th month dentist trip. I'm a bit confused by this, though. They are 4 and a half now, but they were considerably smaller in the dentist episode before. Did she get it wrong or did my eyes deceive me last time?

The family's at the same dentist, the lady who bought Jon's dad's practice. I wonder if that makes Jon sad in a way. I know I would be upset.

When the camera cuts to the interview chair, we see Jon, Kate, *and* Hannah. This is the first interview which has included the parents and a kid. Kate explains that it's a case of "missing mommy" and the only way to remedy the meltdown was to bring the problem with her. Hmm. That doesn't really sound like problem solving to me. Let me do it for you, though, Kate.

Problem: Hannah's melting down because she missing Mommy.
Solution 1: Stop going on so many speaking engagements that make you miss out on time with your family.
Solution 2: Don't favor children over the other. I seriously think if it had been one of the boys melting down, Kate would have told him to stop freaking out and continued with the inteview.

We see the last dentist visit and that trip would not be complete without the video of Alexis completely melting down. The poor girl. She's going to be in high school and kids are going to make fun of her for melting down at the dentist's office.

Leah tells us that Daddy and Mommy brush their teeth after breakfast. Kate confirms and says they have 2 sets of toothbrushes for each kid and they do it twice a day. Apparently the kids can't be trusted to do their own. At 4 1/2, I think they *might* be old enough to do it on their own with some parental supervision.

While in the waiting room, Kate reads a book on the solar system to Leah and corrects the book, saying that there are only 8 planets now that Pluto has been demoted. (Poor guy!) While this is true, was she not supervising the other kids? Why was she just completely ignoring them.

The kids seem super excited that they each get their own chair and that they don't have to share with anyone. Before they get into the chairs, though, they effortlessly choose toothbrushes. I'm sure Kate is shocked that they managed to do it without her guidance.

The dental hygienists give the kids a ton of choices for toothpaste, as well as what smell of gloves they should wear during the cleaning. It was cute to see the kids get excited about all the different things they could choose. They all behaved and cooperated with the dentist. Shocker! After their cleaning was done, each kid marches over to Kate to show off their pearly whites.

Mady and Cara had their all important orthodontist appointment. Neither girl wanted to go first and finally the nurse had to make a choice. Whining ensued when Mady was chosen first, but she was good during the x-ray process.

The worst part of the episode was Kate complaining about how "major major major" Mady needed braces. Geez, lady. Can't you support your kid? Braces have to be dramatic and having your mom make fun of your teeth can't be fun. After that was over, both she *and* Jon determined that she'd need a total rearrangement, complete with sound effects. Which produced giggles out of Hannah. There's nothing like making fun of one of your kids in front of the other. Way to support your kids.

Kate then turns their orthodontist appointment around to her experience and complains about not being sung to when she got her braces off. It's was most likely because it was during her time on bedrest and they had to do it quickly. This happened 5 years ago. Really? You're an adult and you haven't gotten over it yet? Time to move on with your life.

From the sounds of the doctor, it looks like Mady's getting some braces. She didn't seem super excited about it but I'm sure it'll correct whatever's going on inside her mouth. Which is the important thing.

The episode ends with Kate complaining about how she didn't get someone to sing to her when they took her braces off.

SassySarah's Review: I just wasn't feeling this episode. We already saw the kids at the dentist once. I didn't really feel like I needed to see another one. Or Kate's complaining. One thumb down.
