Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Family Movie Night

Family Movie Night
The Gosselin family settles down to watch a movie.

Movie night sounds like good family fun. I always love a good movie night.

It's early in the morning on a Friday and everyone's still waking up. Cara and Mady are getting ready for school and the little kids are milling around the house. Kate explains that now that the kids are older, it's time for them to reinstate movie night.

Since it's the end of school, Mady's super excited to do all the summer things. But Cara isn't too happy because she's going to miss all her friends. Of course on this particular morning, Cara's frantically finishing her homework. But she doesn't have time to eat breakfast *and* do her homework, so she chooses her homework. I can't blame her because I'm not a big breakfast person.

It does seem to be a struggle to get the girls out the door in the morning. Kate said she gets up around 7:20 and hurries to pack the girls' lunch. Jon wonders what's going to happen when the other 6 have to get to school because he's barely making it with 2 kids. Oh, Kate. I hate mornings too, but you're gonna have to help Jon-boy out.

It seemed to be a usual morning at the Gosselin's house. The kids were playing in the front yard and riding bikes around. The bikes were a present from Ellen and Kate does seem grateful that they received them. When the kids were born, Kate realized that it would be crazy expensive when they have to buy things times 6. Joe seems especially happy to have a bike to ride...although Kate seemed embarrassed for him that he had to use Cara and Mady's old bike. I don't think the kid cared that it was pink and purple.

Aaden is the only kid that doesn't ride his bike. He doesn't want to be a big kid, he'd rather be a baby. He refuses to ride a regular bike, doesn't like to dress himself, forgets his glasses, eats with his hands, etc. Poor little guy. I wonder if he feels left out?

Kate got out a nylon tunnel for the kids to play with. They seemed to have fun running in and out and making it roll around. During the kids playing around, Kate realized that Cara had left her lunch at home. Good thing Jon was on his way out. He grabbed Aaden and they ran to drop off Cara's lunch and run some errands. Of course, they stopped to get a yummy munchkin from Dunkin Donuts, too!

Joel didn't like that it wasn't his turn to go run errands with Jon and cried most of the time that Jon was gone. While Jon was gone, Kate played with the kids. Leah played with Kate's hair and gave her a haircut. So cute. When it was time to go in, Collin rounded everything up and got it all inside. He's been doing that forever and it's so cute to see him organize everything.

Due to some sort of editing thing, some of the crew members were installing some blinds in the living room. Kate, of course, gave them specific instructions. While one person drills the holes, the other was to hold the vacuum under the drill so it would suck up all the dust. While this is nice, I don't think it's practical. Why can't they just vacuum when it's over? That's how all the installations in my house go. Kate then states that she can't handle the installation process and retreated to her room, the one room in the house without lighting in it. How come she gets to avoid the lights but requires it of her kids. Doesn't that seem contradictory? Once everything was all installed, Kate decided that they didn't look great and she hates how it fits on the window.

So Kate bitched and said to talk to Jon, who has history in the blind business. The guys then redid the blinds and reinstalled them. I do feel for those guys...even though it's their job. I do feel bad for them.

While the installation was going on, Jon headed to the gym. The poor guy had the trainer say that his body shape was between fair and poor. Yikes. The trainer put him on the treadmill and he claimed he was running from Kate. Oy. Should we really say that out loud? And then Jon told us that he told his trainer that she was nicer than his wife. Oy. Again. But then again, Kate did tell him that he should keep going.

Kate seems annoyed that the kids aren't napping and instead playing in their rooms. But they're 4 years old. I know kids that stopped napping at age 1 and some that nap through age 5. It just seems like there's a lot more temptation when you share a room with 2 other kids not to nap.

After a long day, it's finally time for movie night. Kate's making some popcorn and getting drinks together for everyone. Jon's getting all the kids situation in a seat downstairs. Mady explains that they always had movie night but then it kind of went away when the little kids were born. But now the kids don't always sit through the entire movie, but that's to be expected at age 4.

There are definitely rules to movie night. If the popcorn spills, it's done. And each kid had to go to the drink, the drink does not go to the kid.

The Friday night movie this week is one episode of Planet Earth. It's awesome because it's educational and fun to watch. The kids seem happy to watch and are paying attention for the most part.

During the movie, Kate decided name the animals in the show that reminded her of the kids. It was really cute and the kids seemed to like it. Although one of the sad parts came when one animal ate another. It apparently wasn't so fun to watch. Mady got really upset. Poor thing. A funny thing happened when 2 animals started mating. Oh the facts of life at a young age. LOL

The cutest part of the night was when Alexis let out a belly laugh at something that happened. All the kids giggled, but Alexis just really loved it. So adorable.

It looks like the family enjoyed all being together. I like that they still do normal stuff that every other family does. It makes us feel more relatable to them. Which I think is the point of this show...a large family doing regular stuff.
