Go Mady!! I hope she has an awesome day!
Each of the Gosselin kids is getting a special day with just them and their parents. And Mady is crazy excited for her special day.
Unfortunately, we start Mady's day off in a not so great manner. Kate tells her to go brush her teeth and she claims that she already has. Then Kate looks into Mady's mouth and realizes that she needs brushing. Mady kind of freaks out and Kate demands that Jon goes to brush her teeth. At age 7, she probably should be old enough to learn how to do this on her own.
The rest of the kids head off to Aunt Jodi's house to hang out for the afternoon. They don't seem all that thrilled to have to spend another day with Aunt Jodi and it's hard for them to understand that they had their turn. When Jon and Kate leave with Mady, Kate reveals that she stuffed Mady's favorite bear into her purse in case Mady needed a comfort.
Mady's the second oldest in the family. She's definitely very loving, smart, and witty. But she also has a bad side, which the show shows in horrible flashbacks. Mady's going to be a kid who keeps them on their toes.
When they get to the mall, Mady's excited about picking out some earrings to get pierces with. She finally decides on diamond studs and when she's called back to the seat, she gets kind of nervous. Kate tells her that Mady's got a surprise and pulls out the bear. But it *mortified* her. As a girl that had a favorite doll, the little red baby, I would have died if my mom broke it out in public!
It finally comes times for the piercing. The workers are super nice. They cleaned off Mady's ears and then marked her ears for the right spot. And they even pierced them at the same time. Which, as Jon mentions, if Mady got one and it hurt, she probably wouldn't have wanted the other one to get done. The poor thing cried and didn't seem too happy at first, but once the initial sting was over, she was definitely all smiles. Seeing Mady just super smiley made me realize that she's just a kid that needs some extra loving from her parents. And the more she lashes out, the more love she needs from her parents. It doens't seem like she's getting it either.
After ear piercing, the trio headed to Red Robin for lunch. Mady got to pick a special drink and whatever lunch and dessert she had. She was thrilled with her milkshake drink and ate up all the time she had with just Jon and Kate. It was so fun to watch her face when dessert came out, too. My heart definitely melted seeing her so happy.
This definitely brings back memories. I got my ears pierced for my 13th birthday. I went with my friend Rose, and we made it into an entire day. It was so fun and definitely a really special birthday. I think I want to get a second hole in each ear and I'm going to wait until I'm a CPA. Because that's going to be my reward!
Back at Aunt Jodi's, the kids were hanging out and playing with each other. They seem to be happy there and content playing. And then...someone found the gum. The kids convinced Aunt Jodi that they were allowed to have gum. So Jodi gave each of the kids 1 piece of gum. Each of the kids seemed okay with it and understood the rules.
When Mady got home, she was looking forward to showing off her new earrings. They gathered everyone in the kitchen and she presented them to all the kids. And everyone seemed impressed. Soon after Kate found the gum.
At a decibel higher than normal, Kate found that Joel was picking gum off his socks. She ripped them off his feet and threw them away. Then she found little *bits* on each of the other kids. Collin got some on his little bear and Kate absolutely lost it. She threatened to throwing it the garbage and started yelling. Apparently she spends hours and hours on stain removal and she just doesn't have time to deal with this. Really? Hours and hours?
Okay, I'll grant you that you shouldn't give gum to a 3 year old. But I read Aunt Jodi's sister's blog (which I think is authentic) and Jodi told Jon about the gum when he picked them up, and he gave his okay. But when Kate went off on her rampage, screaming at Collin and Joel, threatening to throw out clothes and toys, and calling Jodi to bitch, Jon was no where to be found. He probably should have said something. But for whatever reason, he was MIA.
Kate did try to get the gum out of Collin's toy with *organic* peanut butter. I assume that she got it out because I think in subsequent episodes Collin was playing with the bear. But making the poor guy cry seemed so mean. It was heartwarming to see Mady defend Collin and try to comfort him. Oh Kate. You just made your kid cry and you don't feel bad. Oh man.
SassySarah's Review: This ending piece just totally ruined the episode. Mady had such a wonderful day and Kate ruined it all by flipping out on her kids. How terrible. Two thumbs down.
