Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Puppies!

Puppies!
The Gosselins gets two German Shepherd puppies for Christmas. But it doesn't take long before the family realizes how much work these two puppies will take.

~*~

Oh no - this has disaster written all over it.

Kate and Jon make a big announcement that the family is getting 2 puppies for Christmas. And since they're getting the puppies, they shouldn't look for any other present under the tree. Aw, isn't that in the Christmas spirit. It seems so harsh.

The kids have always wanted a pet, so Kate finally agreed. Since they had the land, she figured it was a good time to get them. Somehow it turned into getting 2 puppies so they can keep each other company. Cute. The kid are excited to think up names, but Kate quickly shoots them down and announces that the puppies are going to be called Shoka and Nala. Mady and Cara don't like those names and Kate pretty much tells them to suck it up. Kate thinks because they have the dogs for a long time, she's not going to be calling them PooPoo and Buddy. How come they can't suggest names and vote on them? It's a dog, not a child. And the Duggers...the ones that have 18 kids...they voted on the new baby name. And that's a name that'll be around for more than just 20 years.

The family's going to meet their new dogs and Jon and Kate bicker over the winter coats. Jon thinks they should wear winter coats and Kate insists they aren't going to be outside. Um, if it's cold out you should wear a winter coat, even if you're not going to be spending lots of time outside.

The kids seemed kind of shy when they arrived at the dog breeders house. Kate explains that she met him through one of her church speakings and he asked if she wanted a dog. At the time she said she wasn't paying attention to him and hoping he would stop talking to her. (Real nice, Kate. I don't know that I'd admit that on tv.) But then when she realized she wanted a dog, she gave him a call.

Everyone heads to the cages where the puppies are kept, and Kate announces that she's going to hold them first. Mady objects and Kate runs in front of her to be first in line. How mature. Kate heads into the cage first and quickly picks out which 2 dogs she wants. Mady quickly becomes attached to a male dog but Kate decides that she and Jon are going to pick. When Mady gets upset, Kate announces that it doesn't matter and she's going to love the dogs tomorrow and forget about this one. Nice.

Since the family wasn't ready to get the dogs, they had to ask the breeder for a list of items to purchase and their schedule. Are you seriously telling me they didn't consider what they would need prior to getting a dog? It's like they were not getting ready at all. Oh man.

While Kate's trying to figure out how to care for a dog, the kids were off playing unsupervised. Alexis got freaked out on a swingset, so thank goodness for the camera man, who helped her out. Great parenting skills being shown in this episode. The kids were outside the entire time...perhaps Kate should have listened to Jon and dressed them in something heavier than a sweatshirt.

There was some cute footage of a puppy playing with a big dog. Kate said that they are just so much work and she didn't realize how much it would be. And then there was footage of poor Aaden getting cornered yelling that he doesn't like dogs. Kate had no idea. Disappointing to see that. Especially because the dogs that Aaden was afraid of are the ones they are bringing home.

Once at home, the family just dumped the dogs inside and what do dogs do? They peed on the floor. Kate flipped out and seemed so mad. And then she threatened to give the dogs back if the kids don't help out. Which devastates the kids to almost tears. How mean.

SassySarah's Review: This was a terrible episode. They are not a family that should have a dog. Two thumbs down.
