Sextuplets Turn 4
Jon and Kate take the kids to a bakery to decorate their own birthday cupcakes but the kids have to wait until after dinner to eat them.

The little kids told their mom that they wanted a small birthday instead of a large carnival. I have to say that I've never met a kid who didn't want a birthday party. But okay.

Since Kate couldn't "visualize" what the day had in store for them, she knew she needed to prepare herself for it. So she gets the kids their very own aprons with names on them. Great! That will keep the frosting off their Gymboree clothes and hold their resale value.

The family had to attend church before going to the bakery, so what appears to be the family's usual Sunday morning routine was going on. Getting all the kids dressed, doing everyone's hair, and complaining about shoes. Of course, Kate insists on wearing matching outfits and both Cara and Mady complain that their shoes don't fit. What is a mom to do? Insist on having the girls wear the matching shoes and say that she tunes the complaints out.

The bakery opened for the family on this particular Sunday. The kids quickly found seats and fun hats. The bakery workers were awesome and explained to the kids how to make fondant shapes. Fighting ensures between the parents over who was going to watch what table. Kate wanted to be with Hannah, Leah and Aaden, but Jon ended up helping them. So instead, she got *stuck* with Collin, Joel, and Alexis.

Jon encouraged the kids to be normal and eat the sugar, while Kate was not so excited about them eating it. It's sugar, not poison.

Kate is starting to meltdown herself. She doesn't really like the fact that the kids are getting messy. Jon thinks she should just let them have fun and should have brought a change of clothes for the kids. And Kate counters that changing 100 kids (because they multiplied right before our eyes) would annoy Jon. And the voice of reason, Jon, claims they should have changed.

Next, the kids each got some cupcakes and the bakery person helps the kids put on some frosting. Kate doesn't want the little kids eating cupcakes because it was close to dinner time. But in consistent parenting decisions, she allows Cara and Mady to eat their cupcakes "in secret." So now we're teaching the kids that not everyone is equal and to hide our food consumption.

A cute moment happened when Jon told the kids they could have a cupcake if they could lick their elbow. And as hard as Joel tried, he just couldn't get there!

The cupcakes got finished off by putting all the previously made fondant shapes on them. The kids also got to make a large cake and put their names on it. It turned out cute. Despite Kate's hesitations, I'd eat it!!

It's now dinner time and Kate explains that after dinner, the kids will get to eat their creations. But only if they eat their whole dinner. Unfortunately, some kids didn't finish their dinner. Hannah was one that didn't eat her entire meal. So Maddy stepped in and helped Hannah finish enough to make Mom happy. But Collin, Aaden, and Joel didn't even *try* so they didn't get a cupcake. Why didn't Mady or Mom help the boys get through some more? Considering it was their birthday dinner, I think they should have been able to eat at least a portion of it. It was their birthday for goodness sake!

And a snarky sidenote...the kids are 4. I don't know if they need to have bibs still. They are starting to look a ridiculous.

We end with Kate yelling at Jon referring to his life in *seasons* of the show and complaining about his weight. It's funny, I know for a fact that in future episodes (ie: the Season 4 finale), Kate refers to life through the seasons of the show. Who knew she could get that hypocritical? Oh, wait...I did! And who cares about Jon's weight? Do we need to discuss that on national televison?

SassySarah's Review: The kids were super cute, as always. This was when Kate started to really get on people's nerves. No thumbs needed for this episode.
