Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Korean Dinner

Korean Dinner
Jon cooks a traditional Korean meal for the family to teach the children about their heritage.

Now *this* is some yummy food. And I can't wait to see how it turns out with Kate henpecking the whole time.

"For the first time in the history of [the] family," Jon decided to cook. In preparation for the meal, Jon loads Alexis and Joel into the van and heads to the Asian market. The 3 wander around the store picking up what they need. The kids were adorable and charmed the pants off the workers. They found the food to be funny and smelled it all.

While at home, Aaden flips out because he wasn't picked to go with Dad. He just couldn't handle not going. So Kate sent him to the corner and then just made him go to bed. The poor guy just completely lost it. He was able to self-soothe and appears to fall asleep. Poor thing.

The rest of the kids did a project - learning how to stamp and cut. Kate realized that when you don't allow the kids to do anything, the get behind on their motor skills. So she worked with them on learning how to cut and use bingo dabbers to help their motor skills.

Jon got into the kitchen right away and had to separate the green onions. This annoyed Kate to no end and insisted that he was doing all of this to bug her. Cue the eye rolling and the annoyed sighs. The man was trying to cook his way.

Snarky side note - the family owns an entire chopping block of Cutco knives. Those are amazing and must have cost them *at least* $5k.

In order to make lunch, Kate had to get into the kitchen. And couldn't work around Jon. I didn't realize that it was so hard for her to work around 1 other person in the kitchen!

Jon showed off all the food he was making: pulkogi and hawaiian fried rice. Yum!

The kids all tried spicy wasabi peas and their faces as they started trying them were hilarious! In a teaching moment, Kate tells Collin to chew with his mouth closed and Leah shows how she can eat without moving her mouth at all.

Kate freaks out that it's taking Jon all day, so she retreats to the bedroom and leaves him to his own devices to finish dinner. I'm sure that's exactly what he's been waiting for all afternoon. Although poor Jon is worried that Kate's going to get mad that he made a mess. That's what cooking is about! Getting the food done and cleaning up later!

Jenny, the family helper, came over to hang out with the kids for a few hours. She seems very nice and even is planning on vacationing with them later in the summer. The kids seem to like her, which is good, too.

I can't help but notice that some toy is blowing away and Aaden freaks out and yells at Jenny to get it. This normally wouldn't strike me at all, but having watched the show (and doing these recaps well after the show aired originally), I've realized that Aaden definitely is developing some sort of attitude problem. But I don't really feel bad for the kid. He sees his mom ordering people around and has come to realize that *he's* the star and other people are just there to serve his every whim. He doesn't do it a lot, but I have definitely seen a mean side to him.

Everyone sits down for dinner and the kids break out their kiddie chop sticks. They are super cute with some farm animals on them. Mady surprised Dad with some chopsticks in her hair.

The food looks awesome and everyone is so excited to start eating.

Dinner conversation turns to the family's heritage. Some kids don't think they are Korean. Some think they are more Asian than others. It was too cute. Alexis did wonder if Mickey Mouse was "Ajan", too. lol
